"That was good. Do it again." Kathy Sutter: Director and Co-founder of ACTS

ACTS

This is the best link I've found, (so far,) to learn about the theater that I have played a part in, for around a decade:

Alden Christian Theater

ACTS has been putting on quality shows since 1990. If you want to see a professional show that the whole family can enjoy in Western New York, check out Wolfmanted's ACTS page for show dates, and plans for future shows.

Living Nativity is one of ACTS annual events. It was performed in the barn behind St. John's School the weekend closest to St. Nicks Day until we moved to the BeanCounter Coffee House. Now it is performed in the barn behind the coffee house or inside the coffee house depending on the weather.

Like most organization ACTS is always looking for new members and people who want to sponsor good old clean entertainment. ACTS has three sources of income. All of our money goes for scripts, costumes, and stuff like that. One way is by selling tickets for our shows. Tickets are $8 each, $5 for students and seniors. If you buy them in advance e-mail me two weeks before the show so that snail mail can work for you. The second way is though our members. If you are interested in becoming a member e-mail Kathy Sutter for more information. The third way is pledges from our Annual Bowlathon. Most of us act better than we bowl, but we have fun.

A good online listing of other shows if you are located in, or plan on visiting Western NY:

ACTS has put on the two shows I wrote so far. Sometimes I get to act. The rest of the time I do tech. Please do not ask me any questions about sound. I hate sound. However sound effects are cool. Lights are fun. I love lighting design. Do not ask me any questions about Pars, or frenels--our six lekos have an effective range of 20 feet. The real question is what can one do with a coffee can after the can becomes defective, and no longer holds any coffee? aaaah, cofee.... The majority of our stage is lit with work lights, and tin cans with 150 watt flood lights screwed in. If you have not seen Wolfman Ted's ACTS Archive, click on Alden Christian Theater Archives and check out what six well aimed lekos, twelve carefully positioned tin cans, and eight well placed work lights can do for you.

The Heart of ACTS

For ten years we performed our shows at Saint John's School on the corner of Westwood and Sandridge Road, in Alden, New York. While we appreciated being able to utilize Saint John's School facilities, we were in need of a place to put our productions that we could call our own.

The Plight for a Place called Home was to help people understand this need for ACTS to have a building space that ACTS alone inhabits. I wrote a series of short articles explaining who we are, what we do, why one of goals is to have our own space and some of our road blocks in achieving this goal. The Summer of 2001 we did our first show at the Bean Counter Coffee House, 1470 Church Street, in the center of the town of Alden in NY.

Love by Stephanie Genco is a poem written by one of ACTS actors. Stephanie joined ACTS Fall 2002. Like most people in ACTS, she is multi-talented.

Lighting Inspirations

Lighting Inspirations is a short slide show showing some of the things I think our stage lights should capture.

Tech and Writing Links

Smatterings Theater Tech and Writings Links This is my prized collection favorite tech links.

Film, TV, and Radio, has been added to my theater tech link section for the people out there that found this page through a search engine, who are more interested in scriptwriting than they are in theater. Many of the script writing links covered film writing along with play writing. Most stage plays have to be adapted to make a screenplay. From an acting viewpoint: sometimes you can pick up a character's mannerism from watching a movie. From a writer's viewpoint; many of the concepts used in film are global concepts, and work well in many mediums.

Smatterings Stage Script Links

Finding Scripts for Future Productions Copies of the two plays I wrote, can be found on this page along with links to freeware and shareware scripts available on the Internet. I also have a good link to a search engine dedicated to finding commercial plays.
