However, may I share with you two (2) important concerns and helpful suggestions: Concern *1: In cleaning the surface of a piece of wood or metal for refinishing, and finding that the core of the wood is rotten or the metal is corroded through, do not proceed with the painting, for it will produce an unsatisfactory job. No one is ever completely satisfied with a job that overlooks the foundation or framework of the item to be refinished. There is no amount of scraping or painting that will produce an excellent job if you knowingly gloss over the hidden inner defects. Suggested Action: Check the framework of the wood. Be sure that the body is not rotted away. Check the metal thoroughly. Before painting, be sure that all the rust and external matter has been completely scraped. This will guarantee a good job. Concern *2: Allow me to make a spiritual application regarding the above: The Bible tells us in Jeremiah 17:9 that "the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked." Have you ever noticed how some people try to reform their lives simply by glossing over the surface, trying to fool others with a thin veneer of phoniness? In I Samuel 16:7 the Lord God, our creator says, "Men judge by outward appearance, but I look on the heart", (at a man's very thoughts and intentions). Have you ever thought about the fact that God is not fooled by our outward veneer? It would take very little spiritual scraping to reveal the inner rottenness. Suggested Action: There is a verse of scripture that helps man to deal with his decay and sin. It is recorded in the Bible in the book of I John 1 :9. It reads, "if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all u n righteousness."
