Registry Tweaks for the Stout Hearted

These change are aimed at optimizing your system so your computer runs better. If you feel happy with the way your computer runs, skip this section. Some of them work and some of them have no effect. Try one tweak at a time, reboot, and take note of how your system runs afterwards. Be careful. Only change and add the entries you mean to alter.

JohnTP's Home Win XP tweaks noticably sped up my P4 3.2 GHz, 2 G RAM system. Awesome instructions for optimizing a 56K dialup modem connecting at an average of 50Kpps. Tried on my mother's P4 2.8 GHz 1 G RAM system with a 56 K modem which normaly connects at 26Kpps and the effects were not as dramatic-- reloaded webpage quicker, the wait before loading a previsously unvisted site increased from 5 sentences of conversation to about four.

Patches

TCP Patcher Internet fix. Windows XP SP2 limits the number of simultaneous incomplete outbound TCP connection attempts to 10 per second. This patch changes the concurrent connection-limit to an unlimitted number. The amount of speed increase was the reverse when comparing Mom's P4 with my P4 from when I followed the instructions found at JohnTP's Home for optimizing a 56K dialup modem.
