Our director Kathy Sutter, wrote an article published in the Alden Advertiser, and a plea for our audience support to write letters to the Alden, so that the zoning appeal not be private matter, but a public one. ACTS is public by nature. Her members are involved in the community of Alden. Our shows are first rate. Some of our audience has driven miles to see another show.
We Have A Story for You! by Kathy Sutter, summarizes ACTS goals in obtaining a building.Around the beginning of May, 2001 the ACTS lights started to be modified to work in the new building. At the same time, the Fullers worked very hard on remodeling the old Mason building to make it into the coffee house that they had dreamed of. By June ACTS had installed a new lighting grid, and a moveable 12 piece stage was built. July 28-29th, and August 3-5, ACTS opened with Man of La Mancha in the village.
At the town meeting on September 28, 2000, the Alden Village Board approved the re-zoning of Church Street to Residential-Commercial. ACTS may be in the village in less than a year! Everyone who wrote a letter supporting ACTS: Thank you for your support!
Now that we have a building we are looking for a way to fund it. If you support good clean family entertainment: Your contributions are tax deductible. We need your support!
Yes, we are looking into grants. Here some links explaining the process and the possibilities.
National Endowment for the Arts supports theater with grants.
TCG Organization Theater Communications Group lists some current possibilities.
Grants are a slow and highly competitive process. All we can do is try.
To understand why ACTS looked for a building to call home you need to have an idea of some of the technical things that have to done for every show, have an idea of our groups demographics, and the dedication of the people who put on an ACTS show.
Saint John's School has graciously let ACTS use its stage for the last decade. The stage is located in an all purpose room which acts as a gym for the students that go to school there. This room is used for receptions, boy scouts, basketball practice, school plays, dances, and cheer leading practice just for starts.
Who are these ACTS people anyhow? Where did they come from? Where do they go? Why do they stay? Who sees our shows?I will use lighting for an example of what ACTS does to prepare for a show because my background is linked with lighting. It is hard for me to watch a show put on by anyone, without completely analyzing their lighting design. Even when I get to act on stage, and we have someone to run the lighting board, I am still involved in lighting.
