This is a list of software that made my life easier and freeware that I wish I had in the beginning.
File Zip is simple to use to unzip programs and supports a number of zip file formats. If you have Windows Me/2000/XP then you have a built in unzipper, just click on the file.
When you are downloading a whole bunch of files, you need a download manager of some type. A download manager makes multiple connections to the site that you are downloading from. This decreases the time to get your new program. The download manager also lets you resume a download when you loose your Internet connection. It makes it easy to re-download a file when the one you just downloaded is corrupt. Choose any one of the freeware programs below:
Fresh Download starts automatically from MS Explorer, and is ad and spyware free. My downloader of choice when I used Windows 98. Keeps track of mutiple downloads for freeware like Bible Study downloads or a Graphics or Photo Editor with lots of plugins and masks. Also a must for large suites like Brain Box.
Free Download Manager is my choice using Windows XP.
ICEOWS Compresses and zips file so they can be sent via e-mail. Also unzips a long list of compressed file formats.
My First Download by Family Games for if you have never downloaded anything and feel stuck.
