Our audiences are even more diverse than our actors, tech people, seamstress and musicians. Some of our audience come from Alden. They go to church at Saint John's. They live down the block, saw one of advertisements, and bought a ticket. Some people in the audience are ACTS members. Most of our audience are friends, family, co-workers of the cast and tech crew.
A significant number of our audience members travel from East Aurora, about 10 miles away, where some of our cast members work. We've created quite a loyal following of engineers and technical people who also like theater, who work alongside our cast during the day, and who enjoy seeing them in such a different capacity.
Selling tickets is not something we usually discuss while doing a show. The cast and tech people are more concerned about what they need to do for the show, during a show. However, I can tell you where the tickets that I sell are sold.
I live in Le Roy. For me, Le Roy is the center of the world. Le Roy is forty five minutes from where I work, do theater, where my brother is attending school, and where my parents live. Of course none of these places are located in the same direction.
Since I live in Le Roy, I sell tickets to people who also live in Le Roy. Since I worked at Rochester Institute of Technology, some of our audience drives in from Rochester. Since I grew up in Cheektowaga, some of our audience come from Cheektowaga.
My Mom does much of the ticket sales and advertising for me. She makes sure ACTS posters get hung up at church. For us church is the Alden United Methodist church. The minister Reverend Shirley Davidson has two churches. She takes one of posters to Bowmansville United Methodist church. Mom is in charge of Cub Scout Pack 667 in Cheektowaga, and a member of North Side writers group. She hangs up posters on bulletin boards at the bookstores. The word gets around.
Initially, I had a tough time selling tickets. Rochester is between an hour and half to a two hour drive from Alden. People who live in Cheektowaga, think Alden is a long ways away. Some of the people I sell tickets to live closer to Syracuse than they do to Rochester. Some are from out by the Finger Lakes.
The people from Alden United Methodist Church, and from Cheektowaga rarely miss a show. The people from Le Roy and Rochester, ask that they be kept updated whenever ACTS does a show. These people usually come back to Alden, to see another ACTS performance whenever they can.
